A Catholic Community in the Heart of Louisville

Holy Family School Board

PURPOSE AND FUNCTIONS (from By-Laws)

The board is established by the pastor, in accord with diocesan policy, to assist him and the principal in the governance of the parish school. When the board meets as pastor, principal, and members and agrees on a policy matter, the decision is effective and binding on all. The board is consultative in the following sense: the members cannot act apart from the pastor and principal and cannot make decisions binding on the parish school without the approval of the pastor and principal.

Consultation also means that decisions will not be made in major matters until and unless the school board has been consulted. The areas in which the board has responsibility and will be consulted are:

  1. Planning
  2. Policy development and formulation
  3. Financing
  4. Public relations
  5. Selection of the principal
  6. Evaluation of the principal’s relationship with the board
  7. Major curriculum changes

MEMBERSHIP (from By-Laws)

The membership of the parish school board will consist of seven (7) members in addition to the pastor, principal, and one teacher. Elected members will serve for a three-year term which begins in August after the election.

The board consists of six (6) elected members and the PTO president or designated representative as voting members, in addition to the pastor, principal, and teacher, who are non-voting members.
